Why reading matters?
What if I came and told you that there is one thing you could all do which would make you more imaginative, make your memory better, probably improve your personal people relationships and turn you into a nicer person.
You would be skeptical and even more if I say it costs nothing and even everybody can do this.
What is it? Reading!!
And I’m not talking about the sort of reading you do it in your academic education or your organisational administration.
I’m talking rather about fiction, non fiction, narratives, classics, self helps
The sort of reading where you are reading things from inside another person’s head where it takes you right inside a character’s feelings and emotions so you start seeing it through their perspective.
That sort of reading which at best is considered as pleasurable and at worst its often considered as a waste of time.
Long time ago, I remember my father telling me how crazy and fond he was of books.
But his father always said to him ...
“You read so much! What are you going to do by reading?
Where will it even lead you?
Want to become teacher huh🙄”
Well what I want to tell you is reading can be also done out of an interest, hobby or to find tranquil ness and not just for the sake of a give task or as a duty.
To bring a surprising hypothetic situations.
I acknowledged a new theory from brain sciences
In 2013, there was a series of experiments done by two new York psychologists.
What they did was took a group of people and ask them to read.
Some of them were given with non fiction books, self help explanatory.
Some of them were given with thrillers and plots.
And some of them were provided with fiction where you imagine or look at a story from your favourite character based point of view.
Later on they were exposed to few Polaroids or pictures of people making different expressions and they were asked to judge people by their way of expressing in the photograph. This led to make them think what is going on in the other person’s head. This is also called as “Cognitive theory of mind and emotions”
This helps you to step out from your brain thoughts and emotion and think of other person’s from their different point of view which helps you to look and accept at different perspectives of people around us.
And guess what?
Surprisingly this comes from reading!!
Well what if i also add that…. reading can take away your temporal depression trauma and sadness?
oh yes, reading has been shown to put our brains into a state similar to meditation, and it brings the same healthbenefits of deep relaxation and inner calm.
And…who doesn’t like to be called smart and intelligent?
Because more you read, the more you get exposure to vocabulary, facts, informative knowledge from vivid genres and this restores in your subconscious mind.
Now to feel euphoric… all you need to is grab a book, get yourself a cup of coffee or a bowl of ramen and feel yourself lost in that world or words which will take you to an irresistible ride of short stories, facts, different perspectives and imagination.
